Performed at Shahid Akbarabadi Hospital, IUMS
First Specialized Surgery for Finger Contractures Due to Burns by Dr. Masoumeh Abbasnejad
The inaugural specialized surgical procedure aimed at releasing finger contractures resulting from burns has been successfully performed at the Shahid Akbarabadi Mothers' Support Training and Treatment Center.
According to the public relations department of Shahid Akbarabadi Hospital, Dr. Masoumeh Abbasnejad, a specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery, executed the first operation to release finger contractures in a teenage girl who had developed contractures in the web spaces and fingers following severe burn injuries at the center.
This successful operation marks a significant advancement in the provision of specialized plastic and reconstructive surgery services for patients at Shahid Akbarabadi Hospital.
Experts note that this type of surgery is among the most intricate hand surgeries, necessitating exceptional skill and experience. Inadequate surgical intervention can lead to severe complications, including damage to vascular structures and nerves, as well as the potential for necrosis and gangrene of the fingers.
Burn injuries represent a prevalent issue, particularly in cases involving deep tissue damage or burns affecting the joints and hands, which can result in contractures and restricted mobility. In addition to causing chronic pain, such conditions may progress to a state where they do not respond to physiotherapy, necessitating highly specialized and precise surgical intervention as the only viable treatment option.
